A 10 - bear day

In the 450 mile stretch between Dawson City and Dawson Peaks Lodge on Teslin Lake we saw 10 black bears, 8 wild horses, 1 wild mule, 2 porcupines, 4 bison, 1 moose and a dozen or more sheep...truly an amazing wildlife day and our best by far on the whole trip.  The big horn sheep lambed in May and we got to see a couple of the lambs.  They're the cuddliest little things you have ever seen.
We stayed the night in the most idyllic setting, with a majestic view of the Dawson Peaks over Teslin Lake.  It was operated by Dave Hett and Carolyn Allen, a former school principal and banker respectively, a neat couple who decided to live an entirely different lifestyle and opened their lodge in 1988.  We could have stayed there a lot longer, but it was time to move on to new places.  The day was unique insofar as we didn't see a drop of rain.  In the three weeks and one day since we left home it has rained on us, at least a little bit, every single one of those twenty-two days.  Today was perfect sunshine, billowy clouds and totally dry.
On route we stopped at Liard Hot Springs to take "the waters for the cure."  It was what the name implies...very hot water coming out of the ground.  We took our dip, stayed for an hour and then went merrily on our way.  It cured whatever was ailing me.
